From my summer 2010 internship at The Nashville Scene:

Nashville Rollergirls to play at Municipal Auditorium
"Calling all able-bodied, loud-mouthed Music City sports fans — the Nashville Rollergirls need you this weekend at Municipal Auditorium"
I had done some blogging during my time at the Scene, which was cool, but I was thrilled when they asked me to write a story for the print edition. This was a lot of fun. I felt like I was in a scene from "Whip It" walking up to do interviews at a Rollergirls practice in the warehouse arena at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. It was quite the experience — I loved every second of it.

From The Herald at Arkansas State University... a few of my favorites:

News

'I wouldn't be here without this school'
One of the coolest things I got to do this semester was have coffee with the governor of Arkansas, Mike Beebe. This is the story that came from that interview... when Gov. Beebe came to campus for a rally.
A new era
When ASU was in search for a new system president, I covered the entire three day interview process when the final three candidates were on campus. This is the final story, after the decision was made. Other stories from the presidential search can be found at asuherald.com
March on: ASU marching band largest in school history
This was a fun story to write... musicians are just entertaining people to interview.
Faculty, staff ID threatened
An information leak resulted in thousands of faculty and staff drivers license and social security numbers being emailed to hundreds of ASU email addresses.
ASU offers clean air
Students respond to returning to a smoke-free campus.

Arts and Features

Ray LaMontagne's 'God Willin' and the Creek Don't Rise' simply 'eargasmic'
A short review on what's easily one of my favorite albums of 2010.
Gladiator comes home: 'I need the yin to my yang'
Profile on ex-American Gladiator and Jonesboro native Shannon Hall. Known as "Dallas" on American Gladiators.
CouchSurfing: cheap, adventurous traveling
A feature story on CouchSurfing.org. This story was chosen out of all my features to be entered in the Hearst Journalism Competition.
Tailgating 101
A fun little satirical feature that I co-wrote with my friend Trey Harguess. We had a good time writing this... and an even better time doing a photo shoot for it, with ASU's mascot "Howl."
ASU alumni give back to March of Dimes
Feature on a sweet family involved with March of Dimes. Parents of pre-mature born twins were both ASU graduates.

Sports

Hung over has-beens hold their own
Honestly, one of my favorite things I've written for The Herald. A sports column I wrote after playing in the ASU soccer alumni game.
Basketball falls in overtime
Probably one of the most intense sporting events I've attended since being at ASU. A close (and heartbreaking) men's basketball game against WKU last year.
What the Howl? - No respect for Red Wolves
I won a few awards for this column... pretty proud of it.
Rajin' Cajuns push past Red Wolves
Football game coverage from the 2009 season.
Red Wolves give back
Student-athletes at ASU participate in the same philanthropic event every spring: the "Senior Prom" put on at the ASU Convocation Center for senior citizens. It's a fun time!
